Tips for Making Old Furniture Look like New

When I got married, my mother passed a family heirloom onto me that was a piece of old, wooden furniture that had been in the family for generations. Since it was showing its age, I decided to see if I could learn how to restore it. Before I worked on it, I decided to practice on a few furniture pieces I grabbed at a second-hand store. I soon learned that restoring old furniture was more difficult than I expected, but I also learned how much I love to do it! I soon fell in love with my new hobby and am always working on a new piece. I know there are people out there who want to learn how to restore furniture, so I decided to create a blog to share my tips and tricks for learning a new hobby. I hope I can help you learn your new craft!

Why Custom Cabinetry Is A Good Upgrade For Your Kitchen

When it comes to remodeling your kitchen, new cabinets are probably high on your list of priorities. New cabinets give your kitchen an entirely new look. They can transform an old, outdated kitchen into one that looks fit for a gourmet cook. You'll have to decide if you want to buy stock cabinets or custom made. It's probably worth the expense to opt for custom cabinetry when you can. Here's why.

No Space Is Wasted Due To Stock Sizes

One problem with buying stock cabinets is that you might lose valuable space when they're installed. Since the cabinets are a fixed size, you have to mount them and leave empty areas around them that could otherwise be utilized. This problem is eliminated with custom cabinets. They are made any height, width, or length that you need. You can stretch the cabinets so there is no lost space below them or between them. Being able to customize the size is helpful if your kitchen has a unique shape or size. Besides being made to custom fit your home, custom cabinets are well made and durable. They'll last for years and give you a lot of value for your money.

You Get Exactly What You Want

You don't have to settle for off-the-shelf designs. You may want a unique cabinet arrangement or you may just want specific styles of cabinets in a particular kind of wood. When you get specific about your needs, you'll probably need to have custom cabinets made. You'll be able to have all the additions and cabinet upgrades you've been dreaming about and that would be difficult to find in stock cabinets. You can choose the outward appearance, inner design, function, size, color, and type of wood. Your cabinets will be uniquely you and the best thing is they will have all the specialized storage features that you want.

You Can Install Matching Cabinets Elsewhere Too

Another good thing about custom cabinetry is that you can extend the cabinet style throughout your home if you want to. Your bathroom cabinets and the bookcase cabinet in your family room can be custom made to match your kitchen cabinets. This gives your home a consistent appearance throughout. If you want to give your home a luxury upgrade, then installing custom cabinets is the way to go.

Keep in mind that custom cabinets take longer to arrive at your home since each one is customized for the space you want to fit. Order them several weeks in advance of beginning construction so they have plenty of time to be made and delivered.
