Tips for Making Old Furniture Look like New

When I got married, my mother passed a family heirloom onto me that was a piece of old, wooden furniture that had been in the family for generations. Since it was showing its age, I decided to see if I could learn how to restore it. Before I worked on it, I decided to practice on a few furniture pieces I grabbed at a second-hand store. I soon learned that restoring old furniture was more difficult than I expected, but I also learned how much I love to do it! I soon fell in love with my new hobby and am always working on a new piece. I know there are people out there who want to learn how to restore furniture, so I decided to create a blog to share my tips and tricks for learning a new hobby. I hope I can help you learn your new craft!

Action Figure Collecting: Ways To Protect Figures & Keep Them In Mint Condition

Collecting action figures is a hobby done by many. This includes all types of action figures, including vintage collections, newer collections, and special sets released for specific properties like pro-wrestling, horror movies, or superheroes. No matter what type of action figures you decide to collect, it's important to keep them in pristine condition. This can help with the value of the figures and allow you to ensure that they remain the same condition as when you purchased them. There are multiple ways that you can prepare your home for your collection. Learning about these methods will help ensure that your collection remains in mint condition for multiple years.

Light Protection

One of the most damaging things that can occur to action figures is exposure to sunlight. Light can discolor figures, cause the colors to fade, and also have dramatic effects on the colors of packaging material used for the figures. This is why it's best to store action figures in a cool location where sunlight is not prominent. This makes the basement one of the more ideal locations. Basements are typically darker, making them a great place to store or display your figures without worrying about sun damage. You can use light bulbs in the basement that will not damage the figures or cause any additional problems.

Basement Waterproofing

While the basement is one of the more ideal spots for protecting action figures, it's important to eliminate any moisture that your basement may have. Moisture, water vapor, and other water elements can all impact the condition of action figures in the basement. This is why it's important to have proper basement waterproofing in your home done through a place like John's Waterproofing. Basement waterproofing comes with several benefits that can not only help with your action figure collections, but it can help with the foundation and protection of your home.

The waterproofing process can be completed by professionals. They have the ability to stop leaks and moisture from entering the basement area. This can make a huge difference when it rains or snows in your area. Once the process is complete, you can feel confident knowing that the basement will be a dry and protected area to display your figures. It will make it safe enough to place boxes of figures on the ground or hang figures on the wall without worrying about how the moisture will impact them.

Special Protective Cases

Along with waterproofing your basement, you can add extra protection to action figures by purchasing special protective cases. Plastic molded cases are made to wrap around figures. This can help protect the corners from getting bent or the packages from getting damaged. It also makes it easier to display the figures without having to worry about them getting damaged in any way. The clear cases still allow you to fully visualize the product and all of the designs and features. Cases can be purchased in a general size or with a custom mold made for a specific series of toys.

Wall Displays & Shelving

Once a basement is waterproofed, it can dramatically change your display options. You not have the ability to use every part of the basement without having to worry about water leaking in or causing damage to the toys. This allows you to separate figures and display them on wall displays or shelving. By using shelving, you have the ability to separate figures and keep them from being stacked. You can display your favorite action figures and view them every time you go into the basement area. Large shelves are also a great way to display any loose figures that you may own.

Planning ahead and preparing for your collection is the best way to keep it in mint condition and allow it to last for years to come.
